Eric and Justin Stangel, the comedy writers who are known as working the longest at the Late Show with David Letterman, are moving to SiriusXM.
In a press release, SiriusXM announced they would be working as contributors to their Opie Radio channel for the Opie and Jim Norton radio show. They are also set to collaborate with other shows on the SiriusXM network.
The brothers worked on the Late Show beginning in 1997 and were made head writers in 1998. In 2009, they were promoted to executive producers. They have been nominated for many awards, including Emmys and the Writers Guild of America.
Both of them go down in history on the Late Show for serving the longest as head writers. In a statement, Eric said, “This is going to be a lot of fun. It’s already a great channel, and we are excited to help bring in new comedic voices to make it, and other shows even better.”
His brother also joked that since they won’t be on television, pants are not required.
According to the The Hollywood Reporter, the brothers left the Late Show in 2014.
The president of SiriusXM and CCO, Scott Greenstein, said they were “among the best comedic minds working today” and they were looking forward to discovering “how they help Opie Radio and other SiriusXM programming continue to grow.”
The Opie and Jim Norton show airs five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 7-11 am EST on channel 206 for Sirius and channel 103 for XM.
