In a touching moment Tuesday night, TNT host Ernie Johnson won a Sports Emmy and gave the award to Stuart Scott’s daughters.
Business Insider noted that after Johnson received the Emmy, he thanked ESPN for running a recent E:60 profile on him and his family and then said “there is only one place it belongs and that is on the mantle of Stuart Scott's house.”
The late broadcaster’s daughters Taelor and Sydni then made their way to the stage and accepted the award for their father.
Scott passed away in January after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 49. He revealed to the world that he was battling the disease in July during an emotional speech at the ESPY’s.
Johnson himself battled cancer as he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2003. The Inside the NBA host was found to be cancer-free three years later.
Before presenting the Emmy to Scott’s daughters, Johnson mentioned Shelley Smith, an ESPN host who is currently going through her own bout with cancer and was present at the ceremony.
“You may have cancer, but it doesn't have you and you just fight and you just lean in on people who love you,” Johnson told Smith.
