George Clooney admits he sort of sprung a proposal on his now-wife, Amal Clooney, even before they had a chance to talk about the idea of marriage.
During an interview with CBS This Morning’s Charlie Rose to promote his film Tomorrowland, Clooney explained he did it at home while listening to a playlist of his aunt, Rosemark Clooney’s music.
“I knew fairly quickly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amal," he said. "But, you know, I have to say, when I asked her...we had never talked about it...there wasn't, like, 'Hey, maybe we should get married.' I literally dropped it on her."
He admitted she hesitated; mostly in shock at Clooney presenting her with a ring and a proposal – but do you blame her?
"She just kept saying, 'Oh my God' and 'Wow.' And we just sat there," he said. He then joked, "Finally, I just said, 'Listen.' You know, I'm 53, at the time, or 52, I think, at the time, and I said, 'You know, I've been on my knee now for about 28 minutes. So I gotta get an answer out of this, 'cause I'm gonna throw a hip out.’”
They got married in Venice, Italy this past fall and have been the poster couple for wedded bliss ever since, enjoying high-profile red carpet events like the Golden Globes and the Met Gala.
"I have someone who I can talk to about anything and someone who I care more about than I've cared about anybody," he gushed.
