The horrific Lucille Ball statue, which gained so much attention in April that the artist had to publicly apologize for it, is being moved. Ernie Boch Jr., the CEO of Subaru of New England, has decided to donate the funds to get a new one.
The statue in Celoron, New York first gained notoriety in early April, when the creator of a Facebook page got the word out through a Yahoo News interview. It famously features a terrible portrait of the late TV icon and was sculpted by Dave Poulin.
Poulin later apologized, admitting that it was his “most unsettling sculpture.” He offered to fix the statue on his own dime, but the village's mayor didn’t want to have anything to do with him.
On May 12, the Buffalo News reported that the soon-to-be-built National Comedy Center in neighboring Jamestown offered to take the statue as is. So, that solved one problem. However, the problem of getting a new statue still had no solution in sight, as only $421 was raised to get a new one in Caleron.
That all changed today. According to the Associated Press, the Jamestown Post-Journal confirmed that Boch will donate the $20,000 needed to build a new statue. Boch, who is from Norwood, Massachusetts, clearly must be a big Lucy fan.
Then again, who doesn’t like I Love Lucy?
