Jamie Foxx got a lot of backlash for his performance of the national anthem before the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight on Saturday and on Tuesday, he defended his gospel-inspired rendition on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
As we previously reported, Twitter users were quick to comment on his performance, criticizing his vocals and joking it was more entertaining than the fight itself.
“What did happen in the ring my ears came out. My inner ears,” Foxx told DeGeneres, explaining he couldn’t hear the organ, which made it hard to sing in tune with it.
“My inner ears came out and I’m singing with an organ so I can’t hear what the organ is doing with the big crowd. So some of it was a little off, but I think in the arena, it killed. The telecast was a little off,” he said.
As we know, Mayweather won the fight, continuing his undefeated streak. Foxx said he's "always" been a fan of the boxer and was rooting for him against Pacquiao.
