Dame Joan Collins thinks women of a certain age need to face the facts, that men don’t want to see women over the age of 40 in films.

The 81-year-old, who is still a working actress, said she doesn’t think that will ever change.

“It doesn’t matter how much face work they have, or how young they look, young men don’t want to see 40-year-old women on stage," Collins said of aging women in Hollywood, Fox411 reports.

She went on to say men prefer to see “Scarlett Johansson, however old she is, or a very young woman. That’s the hard cold facts, and any actress has to face that."

Page Six reports Collins was honored at the Friars Club on Monday for her recent appointment as a Dame, where she also made fun of age in Hollywood.

“At 20, a woman is like America. She’s fresh and new and ready to be discovered. After 40, a woman is like Asia — she’s mysterious, exotic, inscrutable,” she said. “After 50, a woman is like Australia — not easy to get to, but when you get there she is warm and welcoming. After 60, a woman is like Africa. Everyone knows where it is, but no one wants to go there.”
