Kanye West received an honorary doctorate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago on Monday, where he also gave a speech.
During the speech he talked about humility, being nervous, and George W. Bush, who he once said "doesn't care about black people."
“The nerves of humility and modesty when being honored. A humanization, a reality of being recognized,” he said. “And all I thought as I sit here, shaking a bit, is I need to get rid of that feeling.”
Chicago Tribune reports on the subject of apologizing, West brought up Bush, who "has some very cool self portraits.” He added, “I didn't know he was an artist!”
The “All Day” rapper talked about the notion of saying “sorry,” explaining “'I’m sorry' is something that you can use a lot. It gives you the opportunity to give your opinion, apologize for it, and give your opinion again. People say ‘You shouldn't have to be sorry for your opinions ...’”
He wrapped up his thoughts so quickly that he tried to dart off the stage, but he was waved back to accept his diploma.
His wife, Kim Kardashian, posted a photo of West in his cap and gown and wrote, "Dr. Kanye West!!!!!!! I'm so proud of you baby & I know your mom would be so proud too!!!!"
