Two months after he was surprisingly traded to the Buffalo Bills, running back LeSean McCoy is still not happy with Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. McCoy is now suggesting that Kelly is getting rid of “all the black players” on the team.
Back in April, McCoy told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he doesn’t think Kelly “likes or respects the stars,” adding, “I think he likes the fact that it’s ‘Chip Kelly and the Eagles.’”
ESPN the Magazine’s Mike Rodak followed up on that, asking McCoy to describe his relationship with Kelly. While the relationship was “never really great,” he did “respect him as a coach.” However, he pointed out how quickly Kelly got rid of stars on the Eagles.
“He wants the full control. You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good black players,” McCoy said. “He got rid of them the fastest. That's the truth. There's a reason. ... It's hard to explain with him. But there's a reason he got rid of all the black players -- the good ones -- like that.”
When asked if other players had made that observation, he said that there have been and that even ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith has noticed.
“Other players have talked about it,” McCoy said. “But that's one of the things where you don't even care no more. I'm on a new team, ready to play. So it's nothing to do with Chip. I have no hatred toward him, nothing to say negative about him. When he got [to Philadelphia], I didn't know what to expect. When he let DeSean go last year, I was like: ‘C'mon. DeSean Jackson?’ So it is what it is.”
McCoy was traded to the Bills in March for linebacker Kiko Alonso. The Bills and Eagles play each other in December.
