Things might not be alright for Matthew McConaughey's latest feature film, Sea of Trees. The drama debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and upon the completion of the film it was booed and laughed at.

US Magazine reported that, the movie which also stars Naomi Watts and Ken Watanabe, focuses on McConaughey who plays a scientist who is grieving the death of his wife (played by Watts). Striken with grief, he travels to what is known as the "suicide forest" in Tokyo, where he plans to end his life. It is in the forest that he meets Watanabe.

McCoanaughey took the criticism in stride, explained that he is still proud of his work and was deeply involved in the experience. "I liked the experience of making it and I’m glad we got the opportunity to introduce it to the world. Anyone has any right to either boo or ovate," said the Oscar winner during a press conference for the film.

Trees is directed by Gus Van Sant and really reviews say that the film goes off course during flashbacks to Watts and McConaughey's characters. Vanity Fair added that this movie has more in common with a M. Night Shyamalan project than anything else.
