Melissa McCarthy is calling out mall retailers for almost hiding stores that offer above a Size 12, saying that’s part of the reason she created her plus-size clothing line Melissa McCarthy Seven7.
McCarthy’s clothing line, which comes out in August, goes way beyond a Size 12 – it offers sizes 4 through 28 - giving all women an opportunity to wear it. It will be available in all the popular retail stores like Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's and Macy's.
"People don't stop at size 12," she told the June issue of More.
"I feel like there's a big thing missing where you can't dress to your mood above a certain number,” she continued.
She also takes issue with malls “segregating” plus-size stores that do go above a Size 12.
“[Malls] segregate plus-size [women]. It's an odd thing that you can't go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section,” she said. “We'll put you gals over there because we don't want to see you and you probably don't want to be seen."
McCarthy revealed plans to start her own clothing line last summer.
She told More, “There is just this weird thing about how we perceive women in this country. I would love to be a part of breaking that down."
McCarthy has two daughters with husband Ben Falcone; Vivian, 8, and Georgette, 5.
