A perjury charge against the fiancée of former NFL star and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez has been dropped.
The Associated Press noted that on Friday, Massachusetts prosecutors asked Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh to dismiss the charge against Hernandez’s fiancée Shayanna Jenkins. Garsh granted the request and dropped the perjury charge.
Jenkins had faced a charge of lying to a grand jury for what she knew about the killing of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. She was granted immunity last February in exchange for her testimony in Hernandez’s murder trial.
Outside the courthouse, Jenkins was asked if she was relieved with the judge’s decision to drop the perjury charge.
"You have no idea,” she replied.
As previously reported, jurors found Hernandez guilty last month of first-degree murder in the 2013 killing of Lloyd. His conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. His lawyers have since appealed.
Earlier this week, Hernandez had more legal drama. He was hit with a witness intimidation charge in the case of his upcoming double-murder trial in which he is accused of fatally shooting two men outside a Boston nightclub in 2012.
