CSI: Cyber has only finished one season and it’s already experiencing a cast shuffle. Peter MacNicol will not be back for season two and will be replaced by CSI’s Ted Danson.

The news was first reported by Deadline and also confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. The Ally McBeal actor starred as Stavros Stifter and, aside from that great name, was the supervisor for Patricia Arquette’s Avery Ryan. Sources told Deadline that the decision was a creative one, not made specifically because Danson is joining. Plus, Avery Ryan probably doesn’t need a boss.

Danson has been a part of the CSI family since 2011 and will play the same character, D.B. Russell, on Cyber. CBS announced on Wednesday that the main CSI will be cancelled, but will get a two-hour finale on Sept. 27.

Cyber was renewed, despite only moderate ratings for its first season. It will air on Sundays at 10 p.m., the slot the original CSI held this season.
