Prince Charles made his desire for his first granddaughter very clear even before Princess Charlotte’s birth and he got just what he wanted.
While touring the Poundbury Cancer Institute in Dorset, England on Friday, the heir to the British monarchy gushed about the newborn baby of his son, the Duke of Cambridge, and daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge.
“I was hoping for a grand-daughter - someone to look after me when I am very old,” he told well wishers, Daily Mail reports. "I am really rather thrilled."
He also received a rose named after his granddaughter from a Poundbury Gardens employee. “A Charlotte Rose? You have managed to do that already? How marvelous,” he said.
Prince Charles has seen Princess Charlotte twice during visits to Kensington Palace before the new family of four departed for their country home, where they will likely spend the summer.
Before the Princess was born, Prince Charles expressed his desire for a granddaughter a few times publicly.
