Residents in certain areas of the Philippines are being asked to turn off their refrigerators ahead of the highly-anticipated boxing match between Filipino Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The Associated Press reported that Palawan Electric Cooperative secretary Rante Ramos said Friday he is urging residents to turn off their refrigerators before the Pride of the Philippines steps into the ring.

The move is to reduce electricity as Palalwan has been experiencing daily power outages.

The AFP noted that Ramos also posted a message about the matter on Facebook earlier this week.

"Truth is, come May 3... Palawan grid would still be 2-megawatt short of power supply. Some circuits may inevitably be switched off," he warned.
"Collectively we can do something. On May 3, let's all voluntarily switch off or disconnect as many appliances as we could."

The boxing match, which has been dubbed the "fight of the century" will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 2. It is expected to live up to the hype as the world has been waiting six years for the fight to come to fruition.

Pacquiao has a record of 57 wins, 5 losses and 38 KOs, while Mayweather has a record of 47 wins, 0 losses and 26 KOs.
