Rob Lowe, who will be starring in two comedies in the next TV season, marked 25 years of sobriety over the weekend with a hopeful message to anyone else dealing with addiction.
On Sunday, Lowe tweeted a message to anyone else struggling, writing, “To those struggling with addiction, there is true, real hope. 25 years ago today, I found recovery; and a life of promise. #Grateful.”
The former Parks and Recreation actor also posted an Instagram photo of Central Park, since he was in New York City for Fox’s upfront presentation. “In NYC for Mother's Day, 25th sobriety birthday and announcement of The Grinder on FOX this fall,” Lowe wrote.
Lowe went to rehab in 1990, shortly after his 1988 sex tape scandal, notes The Huffington Post. At that point, he realized that he needed help.
“It ends up being the greatest thing that ever happened to me,” Lowe told Oprah Winfrey in 2011. “Because what it ends up doing is accelerating sort of my alcohol stuff to where I finally get sober and have been able to have the rest of my life that I'm so blessed with.”
This fall, Lowe will be seen in Fox’s The Grinder, a comedy in which he plays a TV lawyer who returns home to work with his family. He’s also starring in a U.K. series called You, Me & The End of the World, which will air in the U.S. on NBC later in the season. That show also stars Megan Mullally and Jenna Fischer.
