Sarah Palin has revealed her daughter Bristol Palin’s wedding to Dakota Meyer has been called off. The wedding was scheduled for next weekend, but a party will still be held in its place.

The former governor of Alaska and vice presidential candidate took to Facebook to make the announcement on behalf of Bristol and the Medal of Honor recipient, who announced their engagement in March.

“Family members and close friends know they are welcome to share a great bar-b-que on the farm that day. All involved, especially Dakota, Bristol and Tripp, and their parents and grandparents, thank supporters for the love they've expressed,” she wrote, simply noting the wedding “won’t be held.”

In the announcement, Bristol cleared up rumors that her fiancé was still legally married to his first wife, Cassandra Wain.

She wrote he was “legally divorced years ago,” Huffington Post reports.

Palin also said both sides of the family will still gather in Kentucky on the day they planned on tying the knot. “Many friends and family still look forward to getting together that day in Kentucky anyway – and the Palins and Meyers are happily looking forward to still being at ‘the old Kentucky home’ on May 23 to celebrate life, in general!” she wrote.
