Sexy Male Celebrities Who Are Gay or Play Gay Roles: A Top 15 Countdown

As the times progress and the world evolves, more and more states are supporting equality when it comes to gay marriage. Celebrities are now starting to come out of the closet while most stay in for their career’s sake. It is a time where you can feel less afraid to reveal your sexual identity, shed your skin and be you.

There are television shows with written gay characters, musicians singing about love with the same sex and most importantly openly gay celebrities in Hollywood being taken seriously. They are not losing jobs because of who they love.

There are many sexy openly gay male celebrities that can be identified as being sexy and for many reasons besides their adonis looks. I actually had trouble selecting a top 10 so I expanded it to a top 15 list of sexy gay male celebrities and I still feel like I want to add more to the list. Picking these guys was not a simple task, as I was rating them on a combination of intelligence, charisma, talent, swag and class with a touch of beauty based on looks thrown in there. There are many sexy gay men I know belong on a sexy list, but not all can go on the list at once.

Chris Colfer

Chris Colfer is funny, charming and has a great voice. He proved that on Glee, playing Kurt Hummel. What people may not have known was that he is a writer as well. He wrote an episode for the show in the final season. To add to his writing credentials, he wrote and starred in Struck by Lightning. He also wrote the New York Times bestseller The Land of Stories. Let’s see, a guy with boyish good looks, a super singing voice, played Kurt Hummel on one of my favorite TV shows and has best-selling books will definitely get my vote.

Wilson Cruz

Wilson Cruz is not just your typical actor. He played Angel in the Broadway play Rent, but before that he was famous for portraying Angela Chase’s buddy, Rickie, on My So-Called Life. Through the years he has always been a working actor. He has appeared in Noah’s Arc and recently, Red Band Society. Cruz was one of the first celebrities to come out of the closet before it started becoming more familiar to the world. He revealed that he was gay at 19-years-old and went through a rough spot, but remained strong and true to himself. He has been an active advocate for the LGBT community for many years now. Did I mention he has a body that can make ice cubes melt especially if you placed one on his chest. Cruz, with his pecs and biceps, land at number 14.

Chris Salvatore

Chris Salvatore is a native to the suburbs of Philadelphia, having grown up in Richboro, Pennsylvania. He wrote his first song at 15-years-old. He studied his craft at Berklee College of music in Boston and The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. He has done some roles that are not hugely known, but it only adds to his accolades. He sings as well, having his own YouTube channel where he performs covers of songs. He has taken part in the It Gets Better campaign and he is an activist for LGBT equality. He was recently the face on shirts that stated, “Be Courageous, Be You.” The proceeds went to charity for the Trevor Project. He has stunning eyes, a mesmerizing voice and he looks HOT with facial hair.

Andy Cohen

Andy Cohen is best known for being a TV personality. He is a talk show host for Bravo’s Watch What Happens: Live and he is also an author. He has also received a Peabody award in 2004. For a man in his late 40’s, there is no dad bod here.

Ryan Murphy

What is there not to say about Ryan Murphy? He is in the top 50 of the most powerful gay people listed in OUT magazine. He created Glee, American Horror Story and was behind many productions like Nip/Tuck and The Normal Heart. He has Scream Queens and another installment of AHS coming out in the fall. He has class, talent, wisdom and he is an attractive older man.

Ryan Carnes

Ryan Carnes appeared on the soap opera General Hospital in the role of Lucas Jones back in 2004 then he left and was cast in the role of Justin from 2004-2006 on Desperate Housewives. He appeared in a slew of projects to eventually land back on GH in 2014 as Lucas Jones again. He has that macho swag in his look, looks great shirtless with the right amount of chest hair and plays a gay character on GH. He takes care of his body so during those famous shirtless scenes in soaps you definitely get a bonus.

Wentworth Miller

Wentworth Miller, best known for his roles on Prison Break and The Flash, is a tall drink of something sexy. He has that deep voice, sex appeal and and now his character on The Flash has superpowers. He came out within the last few years when he was supposed to speak at an event in Russia though at the time Russia was treating gay people unfairly. Miller came out in a speech in America stating that he will not go to Russia and speak if they don't support equality.

Marc Anthony Samuel

Samuel is a TV/film and voice actor based out of Los Angeles. He landed the role of a lifetime with Felix Dubois. He plays openly gay Felix on General Hospital, which is a milestone in daytime TV. He was originally a student nurse and the show obviously fell for him and extended his role to a more on canvas role. He was part of the love triangle between three gay characters on daytime TV. Now that's history.

Adam Joseph

Adam Joseph is a sexy meteorologist. He is the weatherman for 6ABC Action News of Philadelphia. He is super athletic. He runs triathlons and 5k’s. He trains and boxes for fitness and the enjoyment. He not only came out last year, but he also became a father to a precious little boy with his partner. He left work for six months to be a full-time dad and then switched roles with his partner after six months. He found it completely difficult to leave his son and go back to work.

He is great friends with Kathy Griffith and just finished a tour with Andy Cohen. Cooper is known as a silver fox because of the hair color, the toned body and his attractive looks.

Quinto is one of the sexiest male celebrities I have come across in a long time. He is well known for playing bad boy Sylar on Tim Kring’s Heroes for four seasons. He has gone on to play roles in American Horror Story and Slap. He also played Spock in the Star Trek reboot films. He has those intense eyes and handsome grin. The face stubble or scruff are his best looks along with those eye brows.

Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert showed up on the scene by being a contestant on American Idol. He was runner up to the winner Kris Allen. Idol opened many doors for Lambert. He has recorded two successful albums and has guested on Glee. The Times identified Lambert as the first openly gay mainstream pop artist to launch a career on a major label in the U.S. Lambert has a style of his own. He channels a bit of David Bowie in his look, but the look is mainly his own. He has a set of pipes on him. He just released the single “Ghost Town.” Lambert has shown us through his performing how very sexy he can be.

Steve Grand

Steve Grand is a new breed. He is a slow ballad singing sensation with a tiny bit of pop and country in his sound. He is a singer-songwriter who has also modeled. He had a music video on YouTube titled “All-American Boy” that went viral. Fans enjoy his sound and I tout him to be the male Taylor Swift, but with more of his own style. Who wouldn’t want to be compared to Taylor Swift? It is great when you can sing about loving another man when you are a man. This is something that had not been done before. Grand is the only artist I have known who has switched to the word boy where you would say girl for the sake of living in the straight world and not offending the straight population. Grand is being himself and pushing the envelope. He is an active supporter for LGBT rights.

Grand is a game changer and he will partake in the changes going down in history. For this alone, he is a sexy man. We can add in that he is talented and has a muscular body that will make anyone swoon. Don’t forget the smile. He made the OUT100 list in OUT magazine as part of the 100 people that are the most compelling in the LGBT community. He recently financed his debut album All-American Boy with the Kickstarter funding campaign.

Ricky Martin

In the lead is Ricky Martin, who has been performing since he was a little boy. He was part of the Mexican boy band, Menudo. One of my favorite Menudo songs was “If You’re Not Here.” When he was a young man, he landed the role of Miquel on the daytime soap, General Hospital. He acted on the show for a few years, but he was also missing music, being that was a passion as well. He moved on from GH and he was soon cast in a Broadway show, Les Mis. He made his way back to his home in Puerto Rico and then eventually came back to the states. He had successful albums with the songs, “Livin La Vida Loca,” “Cup of Life” and “Maria.” He also had successful Latin albums. He later performed in Evita as Che. All through his professional journey he was struggling inside with himself because he was keeping it to himself that he had passions for both men and women at one time. He never could understand why until he started self-reflecting. He later realized he had been hiding that he was gay.

Once he learned to love himself truly he decided to have his own children and he was blessed with twins. He did not have kids the traditional way, but he is a proud parent to two awesome boys. He then penned a memoir about his life up until that point, even discussing his sexual identity and relationships he had as years went by. Martin is a sexy, Latin, well-mannered, family-oriented, soft-spoken and classy man. He is a singer-songwriter, author, actor, humanitarian (he runs the Ricky Martin Foundation) and father who is also openly gay.
