It's official. TV's longest running primetime hit has just been extended for two more seasons.
In a Press Release, Fox announced they are picking up The Simpsons for two more seasons. The show is currently in its 26th season, and is still proving its worth.
Their strong ratings number is currently 6.2 million viewers overall and a 2.6 among viewers in the adults range of 18-49, via Hollywood Reporter.
The Simpsons, which was created by Al Jean and Matt Groening, will now be assured their remarkable 27th and 28th seasons, stretching through the year 2017. The total episode count after that stretch will hit an astounding 625.
Since its inception in 1990, the show hasn't just been a smash hit, it's been groundbreaking. So groundbreaking that others have tried to emulate and replicate. Some have had raging success (see Family Guy), others haven't.
The Simpsons will now join a group of other shows likely to return for the upcoming fall season on Fox. The list includes Bob's Burgers, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Last Man on Earth, New Girl, Sleepy Hollow, Empire, Gotham and the aforementioned Family Guy.
