Tom Hardy opened up about his past with drug use.

The 37-year-old actor told Yahoo! New Zealand that he is “f—king lucky” to be alive after drug addiction for years.

The Mad Max: Fury Road star recalls when his cocaine addiction was so bad that he would have done just about anything to get his hands on some. “I would have sold my mother for a rock of crack,” he admitted.

Hardy has been sober since 2003 and still remembers the words that saved him.

“I was a shameful suburban statistic. I was told very clearly, 'you go down that road, Tom, you won't come back. That's it. All you need to know',” Hardy explained, “And that message stayed with me clearly for the rest of my days. I am f---ing lucky to be here, to be honest."

While the pressures from drugs are long gone, Hardy he still feels the demand to maintain his Hollywood image.

He told Essentials magazine, “The trouble with Hollywood is that they want you to be something, then they think you're who they wanted you to be. I'm not a fighter. I'm a petite little bourgeois boy from London."

Hardy’s action-packed thriller Mad Max: Fury Road hits theatres May 15.
