The Voice has completed it’s eight season and the winner was indie rock Sawyer Fredericks from Team Pharrell. This year featured a wide variety of talent including powerhouse vocal ranges and subtler rock ‘n’ roll sounds.
This season of The Voice featured Christina Aguilera returning to the coaches chair along with Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. The teams brought out the best of the best when it came to vocal talent and didn’t disappoint in the battle and knockout rounds. The show really found its stride during the live performances, which allowed the contestants to showcase their personality and musical ability.
Some of the top contestants including; Corey Kent White, India Carney, Meghan Linsey and Koryn Hawthorne, all had breakout performances and showed why they had earned chair turns during the blind auditions.

Brian Johnson was a member of Team Adam and became fast friends with Voice finalist Joshua Davis. Johnson seemed like a great fit for Team Adam, he had soulful/rock sound and he was able to really deliver a story with this performance. A great example of this is was his cover of Sting’s “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You
during his top eight performance.

Corey Kent White member of Team Blake and became the resident country musician on the show. He had a young voice but was able to combine modern country influences with classics in a way that captured the attention of Voice fans. He also was able to connect with the lyrics during each performance like his version of “When I See You Smile” during the top eight.

Kimberly Nichole advanced to the top six and her performance of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” is mesmerizing. She used her incredible vocal range to transform a classic rock song into a modern hit.

Sawyer Fredericks ended up winning the entire Voice competition, it might have been a combination of his unique indie rock sound or Coach Pharrell’s mentorship but regardless, Fredericks connected with fans all around the United States with his musical talent. He was able to take classic rock songs and make them feel new, like this performance of “For What It’s Worth.”

Meghan Linsey was a member of Team Blake but wasn’t your traditional country artist. She had a more jazz/blues inspired range and was able to take modern songs and make them feel like something brand new. Her performance of Sam Smith’s “I’m Not The Only One” showcased that Linsey could easily top the charts after her time on The Voice.

Joshua Davis from Team Adam needed a breakout moment during the middle of the competition, something that would make his presence known and it was with his cover of “Fields of Gold” by Sting that moment was delivered.

India Carney being on Team Christina was a match made in musical heaven. Carney had such a wide vocal range and was able to deliver performances that would leave the audience breathless. When she took the stage to perform, “Gravity” originally by Sara Bareilles, it was subtle, beautiful and astonishing.

Koryn Hawthorne was a member of Team Pharrell and advanced to the finals of the competition. She was one of the youngest contestants but had a natural passion and she wasn’t afraid of trying to hit the high notes. Her performance of U2’s “One” showed off what kind of musician she could be after this show was over. She has a great amount of natural talent and with the mentorship of Pharrell; we could have the next great pop star on our hands.

Meghan Linsey had her breakout moment on the show when she sang Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush.” The song was at the height of its controversy when Linsey performed it and she was able to set aside the drama and deliver a beautiful performance that was without a doubt one of her best in the competition.

It was clear that Sawyer Fredericks had a chance at winning the competition after his performance of “Old Man” by Neil Young. Fredericks just had a natural talent and ability to deliver songs in a way that felt organic. Fredericks was able to tell a story with his words. “Old Man” highlighted all of that talent and allowed Fredericks to have fun while on stage.
