It’s a tape! That’s what Kimmy and the rest of the Mole Women find in the Rev. Wayne Gary Wayne’s vault. When they watch it, they see Wayne perform a song, practice Karate and record his The Apprentice audition tape. Kimmy is instantly disappointed by it though and is convinced that it will not help them get Wayne convicted.

After the title song, we see that Jacqueline (remember her?) is a total wreck without Kimmy around. Lillian (remember her?) comes into the house through the back door and is ready to wreak havoc, since she thinks Jacqueline has hidden Kimmy and Titus somewhere. Of course, that’s not the case, as Jacqueline tells Lillian that her tenants have actually gone back to Indiana for the Mole Women trial. They decide to drive to Indiana, although Jacqueline doesn’t really know how to drive well and Lillian doesn’t know how to leave Manhattan.

However, Jacqueline recalls her Native American roots and figures out how to drive and how to tell north from west and east from south.

Before we can go back to the Mole Women, we see Titus sitting in his hotel room, where he gets a call from his agent. Now that Titus has gone viral (is that a good thing, because you know what “viral” used to mean...), he’s a hot property. Of course, the “Unbreakable” singer later tells Titus that fame is a double-edged sword. Titus thinks that’s great, because who would want a single-edged sword?

Meanwhile, Randy is still trying to get the mayor’s cat and ignores the fact that the hatch is slowly closing. Gretchen loves being in the hatch, so she doesn’t care that they now can’t escape. Cyndee is really angry with Kimmy though and the two start arguing. Donna Maria has had enough and reveals that she can speak English. Why didn’t she testify in English against Wayne? Because that would have ruined her business.

Kimmy is no longer Cyndee’s hero, which is disappointing. After all, Kimmy once stood up to the Reverend when she found a rat in the air vent. Wait! If a rat could get in, they could surely get out! So, Kimmy, Donna Maria and Cyndee climb up the air vent, with Cyndee trying to get reception on her phone.

They aren’t tall enough to get out, so Gretchen is needed. Kimmy makes a deal with Gretchen, agreeing to join the cult and stay in the hatch if Wayne isn’t convicted. Gretchen agrees to help and Cyndee just barely gets reception. However, she has to check her horoscope first, which drains her battery.

But wait! Randy has finally saved the cat and, since he set his clothes on fire, the fire department had to rescue him. They spot the girls trying to get out of the hatch and take them back to the court house.

Kimmy, still under the assumption that the tape isn’t going to help, storms into the courthouse. Still, to delay Wayne’s freedom, Kimmy has the jury watch the tape. Gretchen suddenly realizes that the date stamp on the Apprentice audition is June 5, 2006, the day before Wayne’s apocalypse was supposed to happen. If he really thought the apocalypse would happen, why did he want to be on The Apprentice? “You’re not just bad at math, you’re just bad!” Kimmy tells Wayne.

The jury instantly declares him guilty and Wayne is dragged off to prison.

During the celebration, Jacqueline and Lillian finally arrive. Jacqueline tells Kimmy that she has finally embraced her true self, although that doesn’t mean that she will actually move to South Dakota to live with the presidents’ heads.

At the very end, Kimmy realizes that Dong has been calling her. She finally calls him back, only to learn that he’s married an older woman to stay in this country. And then Titus’ wife shows up. The double-edged sword of fame has shown itself.

That’s the end of season one of Kimmy Schmidt! Overall, the first season was hilarious, but the show has to figure out a way to be more than just “young clueless girl learns things in New York” going forward. With the Mole Women trial all wrapped up, Kimmy can finally move forward in season two. Let’s just hope Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and company have enough for her to do in the future.
