Amazon Studios’ first serious awards player Transparent has been renewed for a third season. In addition, creator Jill Soloway has signed an overall deal to develop more projects for Amazon.

Transparent stars Jeffrey Tambor as the patriarch of a the Pfefferman family who finally comes out to his children and ex-wife as Maura. Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass co-star.

The series started off with critical acclaim, even winning the Golden Globe for Best Musical/Comedy series. Tambor also won Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy series. Both were the first awards wins for Amazon Studios. Amazon was so pleased with the show’s success that it actually made the entire first season available for free for 24 hours in January.

“Jill is truly a creative force and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent,” Roy Price, Vice President,Amazon Studios, said in a statement. “The second season is currently starting production, and I know our customers will be delighted to continue the journey with Maura and the Pfefferman family.”

In addition to Transparent, Soloway is also known for her work on Six Feet Under and United States of Tara. She earned three Emmy nominations for Six Feet Under.

Transparent is only available for Amazon Prime subscribers through Amazon Prime Instant Video.
