Aziz Ansari released the trailer for his upcoming book Modern Romance and it looks like it came straight from the 80s.
The trailer, first published on The Verge, begins with old dating profile videos of several eligible bachelors from back in the day.
Ansari came on screen after the men said their piece. He explained how the dating world is harder now that it was in the past. He assured viewers that Modern Romance is different from the other dating self-help books out there.
The book focuses on modern romance and relationships and how smart phones and other technologies are influencing them.
Ansari co-wrote his new book with sociologist Eric Klinenberg. The two conducted a two year experiment using focus groups with hundreds of participates from across the world asking them all love-related questions.
The comedian has used topics related to romance in his previous stand-up shows and decided to use his book as a way to explore the subject further.
Ansari gave readers a sneak peak of the book with an article titled, “Everything You thought You Knew About L-o-v-e is Wrong.” In the exclusive passage, Ansari mentions his parents’ arranged marriage and went into depth about how the ordeal happened from his father’s perspective.
He then goes on to compare his obscure life decisions, like finding a place to eat lunch, to his father’s life changing decision. He also discusses the impact of online dating websites and apps have had on the dating world today.
Modern Romance hits the shelves June 16.
