ABC is currently developing a miniseries about Bernie Madoff, who pulled off the biggest Ponzi scheme in history before he was caught and jailed. Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss will play Madoff, while Blythe Danner has been cast as Madoff’s wife.

The series will run several episodes and is based on investigative journalist Brian Ross’ The Madoff Chronicles: Inside The Secret World of Bernie and Ruth, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Raymond De Felitta (City Island( is directing from a script by Ben Robbins.

The rest of the cast includes Frank Whaley (Ray Donovan), Erin Cummings (ABC’s upcoming Astronaut Wives Club) and Tom Lipinski (Suits). According to Deadline, Lyne Renee (Strike Back) also joined the series to play Andrew Madoff’s second wife.

Whaley is playing Harry Markopoulos, who discovered the evidence that led to Madoff’s arrest. Cummings was cast as Madoff’s young secretary, who looked into her boss’ fraud and Lipinski will Madoff’s eldest son, who committed suicide after his father’s arrest.

This continues a career revival for Danner, who just earned fantastic reviews for I’ll See You In My Dreams, which was screened at Sundance earlier this year. She previously starred with Dreyfuss in The Lightkeepers.
