Brian Williams might not find the environment at MSNBC as inviting as he hopes. According to a report, staffers there hated that his Rock Center newsmagazine series once included a story that was critical of cable news networks.
According to a report from the New York Post’s Page Six, MSNBC employees hated that story so much that they even chanted “f**k Brian Williams” at a party. A source told the paper that the employees at the time were “furious at Brian” and they considered the chant a “rallying cry.”
Back in 2012, Williams had a newsmagazine called Rock Center, which NBC used to fill empty timeslots. Williams recruited Ted Koppel to do stories for the show, including one that examined the effect of partisan talk on talk radio and the cable news networks. No MSNBC anchors took part in the piece, although the network was mentioned. Below is a clip from that segment.
An MSNBC source told the Post that, “The piece was a few years ago. Stirring it up today, it sounds like the chatter of nervous competitors.”
NBC News announced earlier this month that Williams will return from his six-month suspension as a breaking news anchor on MSNBC. NBC Nightly News’ permanent anchor will be Lester Holt.
