Cheryl Burke has decided that she will not co-host the Miss USA Pageant after NBC cut ties with Donald Trump on Monday. The Spanish-language hosts already quit the show after Univision dropped the pageant.
Burke posted a statement on Facebook, noting that she “cannot in good conscience move forward with participating in this year’s Miss USA Pageant as its co-host.”
“Effective today I have withdrawn from my duties with Miss USA,” the former Dancing with the Stars professional dancer continued. “Although I will not be there in person, I wish all of the contestants much luck as I know how hard they’ve all been working over the last year to try and realize their dreams.”
As the Hollywood Reporter notes, Burke was supposed to co-host NBC’s broadcast with MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts. Roselyn Sanchez and Christian de la Fuente backed out after Univision said it would not broadcast the pageant last week.
The Miss Universe Organization, which is co-owned by Trump and NBCUniversal, announced late Monday that it will still try to hold the Miss USA pageant in Baton Rouge on July 12, even though it looks like no one will be able to watch it on TV.
NBC finally cut ties with Trump over his remarks about Mexican immigrants on Monday. The network also said that Celebrity Apprentice will continue without the 2016 presidential candidate.
