Although Community's prospects were rarely clear, the plan was pretty simple. Six seasons and a movie started as a throwaway joke, but soon became a battle cry, and with the sixth season in the bag as of yesterday, one figures the movie would follow. But Yahoo may have different plans.

According to Deadline, Yahoo is having conversations with Sony Pictures TV to keep Greendale classes in session with a seventh season. Nothing's official yet, of course, but Yahoo's desire to keep Community up-and-running are no secret.

Yesterday, a Yahoo spokesperson noted after the sixth season finale, "we’re continually excited by how much fans are engaging with the series. Now that all episodes are available for binge viewing, stay tuned for how we keep Community delighting its fans.” Meanwhile, Joel McHale also told Conan yesterday he'd be more than happy to do either a film or a new season should creator Dan Harmon continue writing.

But considering Harmon wrote he's taking a break on Twitter after the finale, and star Ken Jeong's schedule in flux thanks to his new ABC show Dr. Ken, airing this fall, making a new season won't be as easy as signing the dotted line.

I'm two episodes behind on this new Yahoo season, and while I have yet to watch the finale the word of mouth suggests it's a pretty definitive end. Harmon expressed interest to make a movie, and last year had "early and preliminary" talks to make it happen. Yahoo would likely back a movie as readily as they would a new season, and whether or not Sony knows how many people would show up in theaters to see Jeff Winger and his gang on the big screen, it's at least an established property, and the company is loving those right now.

Chances are, Entourage's box office will play a major role in whether or not the projected feature becomes a reality.
