Screech is going to jail. Dustin Diamond, the actor who played the character on Saved by the Bell, was sentenced to four months in jail for a Christmas Day stabbing.

Diamond was convicted on two misdemeanour counts from the fight in a Port Washington, Wisconsin bar. Police said that he took out a knife after a woman punched his girlfriend. During the fight, Diamond stabbed a man, which he maintained was just an accident.

During the three-day trial, Diamond said he feared for his girlfriend's safety. During Thursday’s hearing, he apologized, adding, “This was the single most terrifying experience of my life ... This is all I've been able to think about for the last six months.”

According to the Associated Press, judge Paul Malloy ordered Diamond to report to jail Sunday. He was also sentenced to 15 months’ probation.

For her role in the altercation, Diamond’s girlfriend, Amanda Schultz, was also convicted of disorderly conduct. She was fined $500.

Diamond has become better known for his appearances on reality TV shows and even making sex-tape. He also wrote the infamous Behind the Bell book, which was the basis for Lifetime’s Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Movie.
