Elizabeth Smart, best known for being kidnapped at the age of 14 from her Salt Lake City home, welcomed a baby girl about three months ago.

Her father, Ed Smart, confirmed the baby news and talked about the new mother’s wish to keep it private.

Ed told the East Idaho News his daughter "just had a little baby girl about three months ago named Chloe," adding, "We're just so excited."

He acknowledged it’s “totally private,” adding delaying putting the news out there publicly is "just what Elizabeth wanted.”

“This is something she is keeping to herself and not trying to have out there,” he added. Chloe is his third grandchild.

Smart married Matthew Gilmour in Feb. 2012 in a ceremony in Hawaii.

She advocates for missing children and contributes to ABC News on missing persons stories since her 2002 kidnapping. Her own kidnapper was sentenced to life in prison in 2010.

Ed explained, "We want all of those people that have been victimized out there to be survivors. We want them to find their dreams and find that new hope in life that helps them become the best and the most they can be.”
