Family Guy star Patrick Warburton, who voices police officer Joe Swanson on the show, opened up about the show taking their jokes too far. He admitted there was one joke about Christianity that he just couldn’t associate himself with, and he subsequently asked producers if they could put it in an episode that Joe wasn’t in.
Warburton talked candidly about the show on HuffPost Live on Friday, but wouldn’t divulge what the joke was that he didn’t approve of.
He explained, “It was something that was so offensive that I said, ‘If that’s in the show, I can’t do this episode," adding it was "the most offensive thing I’d ever seen ever in any form of media towards Christians."
“We all wonder if we have a line that can be crossed, and I just discovered there is actually a line with me,” he added.
Just because he’s on the show and he’s pretty much “okay with everything” else, doesn’t mean he can’t watch it sometimes. "We turn it off in our house every now and then, too, when it gets just too sacrilegious,” he said.
Warburton blamed it on his upbringing, saying his parents are “very, very religious” and hate the show.
