While Gilmore Girls might be her best-known work, Amy Sherman-Palladino said this weekend that she is working on a musical. As for the future of the beloved WB/CW show, a movie might be a long way off.
While at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Sherman-Palladino said during her panel that she’s writing a musical that is completely original, reports The Huffington Post.
“I'm writing the book to a musical right now,” she said. “It just happened.” She declined to give any further details, only joking that it is “based on a movie nobody would have seen.” However, it’s still “original.”
Sherman-Palladino also said that she is working on an Amazon pilot, but didn’t give any details on that.
As for the future of Gilmore Girls, Sherman-Palladino, who also created Bunheads, said that there is no movie in development. She apparently didn’t want fans to get too excited about the possibility of visiting Stars Hollow on the big screen.
“Here’s the good thing: Nobody here hates each other. It would have to be the right everything – the right format, the right timing… it would have to be honored in a certain way,” Sherman-Palladino said, reports Entertainment Weekly. “And if it ever came around, we would all jump in and do it. And if it ever happened, I promise you I’d do it correctly.
The event, which was sponsored by EW, also featured a Gilmore Girls cast reunion. Actress Arielle Kebbel posted a picture of the reunion on her Facebook page.
Gilmore Girls ran on The WB and The CW from 2000 to 2007. The main cast included Lauren Graham, Melissa McCarthy and Alexis Bledel.
