During the 1990s agents Fox Mulder and Dana Skully presented a deliberate, witty type of personality to America on The X-Files. Now, with the six-episode revival of the franchise set to begin in January, new cast members will be popping up in the news.

Today, one such new edition was announced and it seems like a funny mix.

Actor and comedian, Joel McHale, who's best known for the hit series Community, has officially been pegged the newest addition to the highly-anticipated The X-Files revival, via Hollywood Reporter.

While initially it may seem like a strange mix to pit the funny man in such a dark and mysterious backdrop, McHale's role will be one of the guest star variety. He'll be playing Tad O'Malley, a popular anchor for a conservative Internet news network who eventually becomes an important, and very unlikely friend to Mulder (David Duchovny).

To go along with the recently axed Community, McHale is also known for hosting The Soup on E! Network, via Crave Online. Other works to his credit include Sons of Anarchy and Ted.

To fully find out how much comic relief McHale adds to the series, fans will have to wait until January 25 when The X-Files makes its official return (after the 2016 NFC Championship Game on Fox).
