Jon Bernthal, one of the original stars of AMC’s The Walking Dead, has been cast as The Punisher in the second season of Netflix’s hit Daredevil.

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of TV, said in a statement. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

The news comes just days after rumors started that The Punisher would have his own show in the second wave of Marvel’s Netflix shows. However, it looks like they want to introduce him in Daredevil before giving the character a whole show to himself.

Like Daredevil, The Punisher was also featured in movies. A 1989 film was produced by New World Pictures. Artisan, Lionsgate and Marvel teamed up for new films in 2004 and 2008.

Bernthal played Shane on The Walking Dead and later starred on TNT’s Mob City. In film, he can be seen in The wolf of Wall Street, Fury and Ben Affleck’s upcoming film The Accountant.

Daredevil has earned critical acclaim since debuting, as it is noticeably darker than the Marvel films. It stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind attorney who hopes to stop crime in Hell’s Kitchen as a vigilante at night. Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson and Deborah Ann Woll also star. The series was produced by Marvel TV with ABC Studios and is part of a cycle of shows that will lead up to the Defenders mini-series.
