L.A. Reid was a co-judge on Simon Cowell’s US version of The X Factor back in 2011 and 2012 and he’s now getting candid about what a mistake it was for his career.

Reid said he “adjusted” his taste level for television, which completely ruined it.

He explained during a Q&A session at an event sponsored by Pepsi in Cannes, France on Saturday that it was “the worst thing I've ever done, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

His comments follow-up Mariah Carey slamming her short stint on American Idol, which she called the “worst experience of my life.”

Reid, who worked alongside Cowell, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger during his time as a judge said he liked the first season but started to hate it the second time around. He did say he has “great respect” for Cowell but started to adapt his same taste in music.

“It really affected my taste — it almost destroyed it. It completely threw me off. What works for television isn't necessarily the thing that works in the traditional journey of music, so I adjusted my taste for television."

He added, “I lowered my bar — my bar was quite high, if I'm being honest, and as a result, I didn't have the same level of success. The bar is quite high again now, but it was damaging.”

Reid even admitted that The Voice, which is now the front-runner in singing competition shows, “cleaned our clock."
