Laverne Cox has been given the honor of being the very first transgender woman to get a wax figure at Madame Tussauds, which will be showcased at San Francisco’s Fisherman's Wharf location.
The Orange is the New Black star’s figure will be unveiled in conjunction with San Francisco’s annual Pride Celebration & Parade weekend on June 26 at a press conference held the night before it starts.
In a statement, Cox, 31, told Entertainment Weekly, “I am so deeply honored to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy.”
“When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary,” she continued. “I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.”
Cox has made strides for the trans community, becoming the first to receive an Emmy nomination and the first to appear on the cover of TIME magazine.
Her show, OITNB, returns for a third season Friday, June 12.
