Today, 22 year-old Miley Cyrus will be taking photos of people who identify themselves as transgender or gender non-conforming for her new social justice campaign called Happy Hippie Presents #InstaPride.
The collaboration between Cyrus and Instagram goal is to increase awareness about people who do not have a gender identity. Cyrus plans to post these pictures on Instagram with the InstaPride hashtag in the caption, notes Billboard.
“Anyone should be able to express how they feel, without question, and be able to live,” Cyrus tells TIME. “And use the f**ing public restroom.
The Happy Hippie is a non-profit organization that Cyrus created in response to the suicide of Leelah Alcorn. Alcorn was a transgendered girl who killed herself after her parents forced her through conversion therapy.
Cyrus hopes that these pictures will be used as a sign of hope for young people who are struggling wit their identity.
“People like Leelah are not living their lives because people are telling them what to be,” says Cyrus.
People who support the cause can be seen sporting the color yellow. Cyrus believes that the color represents happiness and individuality. It is important to remember that gender isn’t just pink or blue.
