Nichelle Nichols, one of the original stars of Star Trek, is getting better after suffering a minor stroke last week. One of her co-stars, George Takei, also said that she is “resting comfortably.”

Nichols was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital Wednesday night. There wasn’t much information when the news first broke, but her reps at Galactic Productions, LLC confirmed on Facebook that it was a minor stroke.

On Thursday, her reps wrote that she had a CAT scan and MRI. The CAT scan came back negative. “Currently she is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations. Her right side has shown minor signs or mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralyses,” the statement noted.

Another message on Friday noted that the MRI confirmed that she had a minor stroke and will undergo therapy. “The therapists will test her hand at writing and legs to see if she can stand and walk on her own. Last night Nichelle remained alert, and cheerful,” her rep wrote.

Takei spoke with Variety at the Tony Awards last night, where he said that she is “resting comfortably” and that the prognosis is “optimistic.”

Nichols, 82, played Lt. Uhura on the original Star Trek series and reprised the role in the first six Star Trek movies. As one of the few remaining original stars, she still makes appearances at sci-fi conventions around the country.
