A parole board in South Africa has recommended that disgraced Olympian Oscar Pistorius be released from prison in August after serving a 10-month sentence.

The Associated Press noted that National Commissioner of Correctional Services Zach Modise said that the committee recommended his release date for August 21.

Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide in October for the 2013 killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and sentenced to five years in prison.

The double amputee known as “Blade Runner,” shot the model through a closed bathroom door after the two had an argument. Throughout the trial he maintained that he fired the shots because he mistook her for an intruder.

BBC News noted that upon his release, under South African law, Pistorius will be placed on house arrest after having served one-sixth of his five-year sentence.

Pistorius, a double-amputee, was once a cherished South African athlete and became a global hero after he competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London against able-bodied runners. But he fell from grace and was portrayed as a violent person during the 2014 murder trial.

Prosecutors are appealing the verdict.
