Stephen Colbert might still have a few months to go before The Late Show starts again, but that isn’t stopping him from commenting on current affairs. In fact, he posted a very Colbert Report-esque response to the historic decision by the Supreme Court to allow same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
“History movies fast,” Colbert noted. “It’s hard to believe that gay Americans received full Constitutional personhood just five years after corporations did!”
Colbert also dissected the four dissenting opinions from Supreme Court Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. He really enjoyed Scalia’s opinion, but still begged him to make an appearance on The Late Show.
On Friday, the Supreme Court voted 5-4 to allow same-sex marriage in all 50 states, with Justice Anthony Kennedy writing the majority opinion.
As for Colbert, he will be back on TV on Sept. 8 to take over CBS’ The Late Show.
