Stephen Colbert might be a great late night TV host, but he certainly isn’t a great songwriter. The former Colbert Report host and his team are busy getting ready for their Late Show debut in September and they have a lot of work to do.
CBS posted a video Monday, showing Colbert writing the theme song himself and revealing that he doesn’t know how to rhyme. “Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes.”
The video also shows off his office, where he has a copy of L. Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics. Obviously, he thought that Going Clear was a positive advertisement for Hubbard.
You can also spot his “Show Needs” list, which also includes “things to say,” “more things to say,” “bolo tie?” and kicking an addiction to Oxycontin (before then getting more of it).
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert debuts on Sept. 8, but we’ve already seen a video of him shaving off his Colbeard. He also hired jazz musician Jon Batiste as his bandleader. Hopefully, Batiste can write a much better theme song.
