The Tennessee Titans released running back Shonn Greene on Tuesday.
The release comes just before the Titans start their mandatory three-day minicamp. Greene didn’t take part in the team’s offseason program. He had one year left on his three-year contract from 2013. He got $10 million in guaranteed money in the deal and was scheduled to make $3.25 million this year, according to ESPN. Greene leaves $833,334 behind in dead salary cap money.
Greene spent his first four seasons with the New York Jets, where he ran for more than 1,000 yards in back to back seasons. He hasn’t been very productive and has struggled since joining the Titans. Last year he ran for 392 yards and two touchdowns, according to The Tennessean. Green ran for 687 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons with the Titans. He has run for 4,110 yards and 24 touchdowns in his six year career.
Despite releasing Greene the Titans still have depth at the running back position. They drafted running back Bishop Sankey last year, and the drafted running back David Cobb and fullback Jalston Fowler this year. The Titans also have Dexter McCluster and Antonio Andrews as running backs.
