Even though DC’s Legends of Tomorrow doesn’t debut until January at the earliest, a rumor claims that The CW is already planning a solo series for Hawkgirl.
Hawkgirl is being played by Ciara Renee, who got the job in March. It will be her first big television gig, since she is better known for her work on Broadway in Pippin and Big Fish. Her previous TV work includes a Law & Order: SVU appearance.
The rumor about Renee getting her solo show came from Spoiler TV which didn’t have much information on the project. The site did say that the show would likely go straight-to-series, should it move forward.
Legends of Tomorrow was held back for midseason, since The CW will have both The Flash and Arrow premiering this fall. If the show turns out to be a hit, obviously The CW would want to create a solo series for one of the show’s characters.
However, the network might want to worry about oversaturating the market with DC Comics heroes. There’s only so much time in a day to watch all these. In addition to the three shows on The CW, DC also has Supergirl on CBS and Gotham on Fox. (Both Supergirl and Gotham will be airing during the same timeslot this winter!) The Vertigo comic Lucifer is also being turned into a show for Fox.
