The O.C. is getting an unlikely spinoff.
A musical based on the popular teen drama is in development, notes Rolling Stone. Fans will be able to see their favorite characters Ryan, Marissa, Seth and Summer sing and dance in this one-night-only event.
Variety reported that only the roles of characters of bad boy Luke Ward and matriarch Kirsten Cohen have been cast. A part has been cast for the show’s creator Josh Schwartz, though it will not involve any singing.
The O.C. made its television debut in 2003 on Fox and ran for four seasons. It followed the story of Ryan Atwood, a troubled Californian teenage boy, who was adopted in into an upper-class family and his struggles to adapt to the Orange County, California lifestyle.
The show featured a very talented list of actors including Ben McKenzie as Ryan Atwood and Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan as his parents Sandy and Kirstin Cohen. It also sky-rocketed Adam Brody, Rachel Bilson and Mischa Barton into fame, making them household names.
This news comes days after the popular film Clueless is going to become a musical. The film’s writer and director Amy Heckerling confirmed this exciting news by saying, “I’ve written what they call ‘the book’ and it’s a jukebox musical.”
The O.C. musical event will take place Aug. 30 in Los Angeles.
