Inside Out, like all Pixar movies, features a stunning voice cast of great actors and comedians, including Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling and Bill Hader. Since we are just two weeks away from the studio’s 15th feature film, it’s a good time to be reminded of the other great voice casts assembled for Pixar characters.
While other studios seem to cast voices before even creating characters, Pixar does the opposite. They create the characters first and then find the best stars that fit. Going all the way back to Toy Story, when Tim Allen and Tom Hanks voiced Buzz Lightyear and Woody, the studio has always found the voice they need.
What’s so cool is that, often, Pixar’s characters are so strong that you don’t see an actor’s face in your mind while watching the movie and you forget who the voice is. While watching Monsters, Inc., Billy Crystal’s voice feels like just a tool to bring Mike alive. Even in Cars, Larry the Cable Guy’s voice is perfectly matched with Mater.
