Winona Ryder just caught the TV bug. Or, to be more precise, she caught the streaming TV bug. She has joined a new supernatural thriller series for Netflix.

The eight-episode series no longer has a title, but it was previously called Montauk. Netflix said that the series will be a tribute to ‘80s horror classics and happens to be set in that decade. All eight episodes will be written and directed by Wayward Pines duo Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer.

Ryder’s casting was first reported by TVLine. The two-time Oscar nominee will star as the mother of a 2-year-old boy who goes missing. While she tries to find him, she unleashes supernatural strength that she never knew she had.

David Harbour (The Newsroom, State of Affairs) stars as the town police chief.

While this will be Ryder’s first regular TV series gig, she just finished filming the HBO miniseries Show Me A Hero. Starring Oscar Isaac, the series was written by The Wire’s David Simon and was directed by Paul Haggis. The series is about Yonkers after the Civil Rights movement and the mayor who tried to keep the city together.
