Lee Daniels, who created Empire with The Butler writer Danny Strong, wasn’t too happy with the Television Academy for snubbing his new show. The director left a profane message for Emmys voters, although it did sound a bit like a joke.
Daniels posted a video on Instagram today, just hours after Empire missed out on an Outstanding Drama Series nomination, earning just three nominations overall. Taraji P. Henson ended up being the only star on the series to get nominated.
In the video, Daniels is seen with Empire’s Jussie Smollett.
“People say I have to be politically correct on Instagram,” Daniels begins.
“You have to be nice, you can’t be...” Smollett started. Then, Daniels butted in.
“F**k these motherf**kers!” Daniels yelled with a chuckle. He included the hashtags “#canfinallypostthis#timetoberealagain#emmyniceguyoverwith.”
