The 2015 Global Citizen Festival will certainly be an event New York music fans have to get to in September. This year’s free event in Central Park will feature performances from Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Beyonce and Ed Sheeran.
Global Citizen is an organization that hopes to fight inequality and extreme poverty, with dreams of ending extreme poverty by 2030. To make sure that the event is open to everyone, tickets are free to anyone who completes a series of “action journeys” on the Global Citizen site. If you can’t make it to the show, it will be streamed on YouTube and on the MSNBC site.
“I am honored to be a part of the Global Citizen Festival,” Beyonce said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “It has always stood for improving the lives of people everywhere, but this year is especially rewarding as we all join focuses and utilize our talents for one goal: to end extreme poverty globally.”
Beyonce’s “Chime For Change” is also teaming up with Global Citizen to support their goal for gender equality.
“It's at once a great honor and very humbling to participate in the Global Citizen Festival,” Sheeran added. “I look forward to sharing the stage with such an amazing lineup of artists in an effort to raise awareness, educate others and work toward the goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030. I truly believe it's possible if we all work together.”
Last year’s festival featured Jay Z and No Doubt. This year’s event will take place on Sept. 26.
