Brody Jenner has made no secret out of the fact that he gets along much better with Caitlyn than he ever did with Bruce Jenner, but he’s now opening up about how long he’s known about her transition.

Bruce didn’t let the world know about his plans to become Caitlyn until the Diane Sawyer interview in April, though it was speculated on much earlier than that. Caitlyn made her glamorous debut as a woman in the cover of Vanity Fair in June and since then, the Jenners and Kardashians have been open about the transition.

Brody, who’s one of Caitlyn’s six biological children, said on the Today Show on Tuesday that his mom, Linda Thompson, told him about the transition three years ago.

Thompson has written in an essay that Bruce told her he identified as a woman when Brody was 18 months old but she waited until her kids, Brandon and Brody, were mature enough to handle it to tell them.

People reports Brody explained during the interview, “Caitlyn is just a much freer person,” adding, “Bruce and I just kind of really didn't get along ... and with Caitlyn ... it's like getting to know somebody – your dad – all over again, in a better way."
