On this week’s episode of Chasing Life, April embarks on a spontaneous trip to Bermuda to distract her from choosing a clinical trial, Sara worries about money, and Dominic feels the strain of his breakup with Natalie.

The episode opens with April floating in the ocean, then flashes back to two days earlier. April is trying to continue living in the moment and wants to make plans with Leo to go the courthouse to get married. She’s seeing Dr. Hamburg later and doesn’t know what news the check up will bring about her clinic trial. Leo disagrees with having a spontaneous wedding and advises that they wait until April hears what Dr. Hamburg has to say. April compromises.

Cue opening theme.

April meets up with Dr. Hamburg who informs her that she must start her clinical trial immediately. April says she’s researched online and saw mixed results. She wants a couple more days to decide. Knowing that this would happen, Dr. Hamburg explains how she’s already submitted an application for a clinical trial for April. It’s set to start on Monday.

Back at the Carver house, Sara discusses her financial concerns with Emma. Between April’s medical bills and Brenna’s school tuition, everything is starting to add up and Sara wonders if she can convince Brenna to transfer schools, since she didn’t originally want to go to Charton.

At the same time, Dominic and Natalie continue their talk. Dominic says he was taking their relationship day by day, which isn’t good for Natalie, who wants something more long term. Natalie ultimately remains firm in her decision to break up with him.

April hangs out with Meg and Vanessa at the hospital and they give her new perspective on doing clinical trials. April re-considers letting Dr. Hamburg handle all her medical affairs.

At film club, Brenna shares her plans to create a short flick with her friends. Meanwhile, Ford seems to dislike new girl, Margo.

At The Post, Dominic closes an offer to write a second book and Danny wants to help him celebrate. He thinks having a guys’ night will take Dominic’s mind off of his breakup with Natalie.

Later, April visits Beth and shares her fears about selecting a clinical trial. Wanting to distract herself for a few days, April asks Beth if she’d like to accompany her to Bermuda for a few days. While initially reluctant, Beth agrees to go. She also fills April in on the details surrounding Dominic and Natalie’s breakup.

The next day, April and Beth arrive in Bermuda. Beth wants to prepare for an important conference call with her boss, but April convinces her to relax instead.

At the beach, April and Beth party and flirt with attractive strangers. Having an awkward exchange with a guy earlier, April takes off her engagement ring and pretends to be someone else. She also wears a long wig to hide her cancer. April tells Beth it’s a nice change to be normal, not sick.

Back in Boston, Sara ambushes Brenna and asks her if she’s doing okay in school, since she had a lot of problems fitting in when she started at Charton. Brenna reassures Sara that everything is good and she is happy before asking if she and Ford can go to a concert that night.

April and Beth continue their bender in Bermuda and April bums a cigarette off a fellow vacationer.

Back in Boston, Brenna and Ford drink at the concert. Brenna is really into, but Ford doesn’t seem to dig the singer as much. Ford’s displeasure increases when Margo and her friend, Jesse show up and ask to hang out with her and Brenna. Later in the night, Margo and Jesse reveal that they’re each other’s “gay best friends” and Brenna shares that she’s bi.

Dominic and Danny return home from their celebration in Spirit Lake with dates in tow. Both of them get lucky.

Back in Bermuda, April’s guy walks her home and goes to make a move, but April stops him, telling him she’s engaged. The guy questions how April could lead him on, so she explains how she needed an escape and quickly pulls off her wig. The guy is stunned and April heads back to her hotel room alone. She realizes she can’t change her situation simply by switching states.

The next morning, April puts her engagement ring back on and calls Leo, but their call is cut short when Beth arrives at their hotel. She’s missed her conference call for work and doesn’t know how she’ll smooth things over with her boss. Beth is angry for letting April’s choices affect her, too and the pair have an argument.

Meanwhile, in Boston, Dominic wakes up to find his hookup buddy leaving. He tries to convince her to stay with little avail.

At the Carver house, Sara continues to feel financial strains when her toilet explodes and she receives an expensive repair bill. Emma tells Sara she can’t keep worrying, but Sara decides she needs to cut back her expenses, even if that means forcing Brenna to transfer schools.

Back in Bermuda, April reads on the beach. Beth suddenly interrupts; she needs to go home and try to salvage her job. April understands, but chooses to stay in Bermuda. Later, April floats in the ocean, alone.

At The Post, Danny gushes to Dom about their great night and wonders what’s next for them. Dominic says he doesn’t want to wake up to another random girl, he wants more. Danny feels differently.

Simultaneously, Brenna assembles her team to begin shooting her short film and complications ensue when Ford is unwilling to cooperate.

Back at the Carver house, April surprises Sara by returning from Bermuda early. She shares her concerns about not knowing where her life is going, including fighting with Beth over Beth’s job. Sara tells her that everything changes and she has to adapt.

Later, April and Beth finally reconcile.

The next morning, Sara has a talk with Brenna and fills her in on their financial problems. When Sara explains that transferring schools will help lower the family’s bills, Brenna doesn’t react well. She thinks it’s not fair that she has to make such a huge sacrifice.

At their apartment, Natalie tells Beth about her dad’s book. She says the details match up too closely with her father’s personal life. She also considers if he planned his own death just like the book’s protagonist.

At the hospital, April informs Dr. Hamburg that she wants to try a different clinical trial than originally planned. Dr. Hamburg respects April’s decision.

End of episode.
