The Houston Rockets have acquired guard Ty Lawson in a trade with the Denver Nuggets.
According to ESPN, the Nuggets will get the non-guaranteed contract of forward Kostas Papanikolaou and the partially-guaranteed contract of guard Pablo Prigioni, and Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson, and a 2016 first-round pick. In addition to Lawson, the Rockets will also get a 2017 second-round pick from the Nuggets. Lawson was notified Sunday night that he was being traded to the Rockets.
As previously reported, Lawson was arrest for DUI, his second this year, in Los Angeles last week. He is currently in rehab in Los Angles. His next court appearance is August 20.
Lawson was drafted by the Nuggets in 2009, and had spent his entire career with the team. Last season he averaged 15.2 points and a career-high 9.6 assists. He was third in the NBA in assists last year. Lawson has averaged 14.2 points, 6.6 assists, and 2.9 rebounds in his six year career, however he has averaged 16.4 points, eight assists, and 3.2 rebounds since the 2011-12 season, according to Fox Sports.
The Nuggets will now try to trade or waive Prigioni before Monday’s deadline that will guarantee his $1.6 million salary for the 2015-16 season.
